You made some very valid points on the overexposure of environmental concern in today society. America has sealed the deal that today's spokesmodels on Environmentalism and Global Warming are individuals like Al Gore, Arnold Schwarzenegger, ect. We need to recognize that each and everyone of us has the chance to make the difference in our own homes, community, and nation.

Come investigate http://electricbill2007.org and find out what you can do to save the planet.

Interesting post. Science often has to endure politically motivated railroading from time to time on various issues. Evolution and global warming are just two recent examples.

Great post Ed! It is great to see someone take up another side. Historical evidence has also suggested that the earth runs on warming/cooling cycles with multiple "ice ages" of varying scales. I am all for being "green" and living as earth friendly as possible but there is one thing I still don't understand; how does buying carbon credits make a company any more green and/or carbon neutral? Seems like a lot of lip service.
BTW, the Kennedy assassination? Result of global warming. ;)

Let's face one undeniable fact -- there are whack-jobs on both sides of this conversation. The ability to spew hyperbole is not constrained to a particular point of view.

Unfortunately, a lot of people have made an unrelated melding of the ideas of being "environmentally respectful" and being a "global warming alarmist".

I can argue your point about government funding being cut for "deniers". I would counter the opposite, at least in the U.S. over the last several years. Scientific studies that suggest climate change has a human component have been suppressed or de-funded by the current administration, over and over again. Unfortunately, rather than concentrating on facts (regardless of what those facts are), we've politicized the entire debate to the point that your opinion is practically formed for you based solely on political ideology.

I can not legitimately fathom how someone could argue against the ideas of "reduce, reuse, and recycle". When the average styrofoam container would take (literally) thousands of years to naturally degrade, it simply amazes me that anyone would mindlessly flip it into the trash can.

You can be environmentally responsible without being a Chicken Little alarmist. Sadly, it's always the extremist on either side of any debate which will get all the press. As long as the extremists are in charge of the debate, we all lose.

Great post ED! We need to get you in a "Death Match" with Heidi Cullum(SP?) from the Weather channel.

I love the story that got buried recently where the activists got up on a shrinking glacier and stripped naked for a photo to show the plight of the warming world. The part not reported widely, they found a silver mine recently under that same glacier, tools and all, from the 1700's I believe. Abandoned due to that pesky global cooling. I can't remember if that was in Greenland or not, but it may have been.

The other thing that kills me is all the drowning polar bears due to warming. That is all well and good, until you look at the fact that the polar bear population is thriving compared to decades back when the Earth was cooler. go figure. lol.

I expect a personal apology from several people that should know better when the trend yet again shifts. The actual temp has not risen in a few years, since 98 I believe, but I could be wrong.

I could go on. The official temp stations located in areas not suitable for accurate temperature measurement, the fact that a large portion of the 2600 or so scientists that form the consensus are from disciplines of study that have nothing to do with weather, climate, or the history of either.

How about the melting of the ice caps on Mars during the same period of time? Those H2 emissions get around, eh? how dare we blame the Sun as a possible culprit.

I don't claim to have all the answers about anything, but I sure do question the hell out of those that do make that claim.

I mean, what would worldwide taxation and market control by the UN or any other global body have to do with weakening the US and other powerful countries by holding them to useless environmental treaties? I have drank too much Kool-Aid now.

Where was I? Oh yeah, great post Ed!
