Monkeys off my back
brain dump August 1st, 2007It’s been a chaotic last several weeks in my new media world. Three or four months ago I decided to make the move from the free blog hosting services I had been using to paid hosting. After a month or two of thinking and researching, I decided to go with Bluehost (BTW, if you are looking for hosting, let me know). So, for the last 6 weeks or so, I’ve been slowly weeding through Wordpress themes, podcast migrations, graphic designs, etc. for most of my new media projects.
Of course, as soon as the decision was made, another 10 things come up and make the chaos even more…. chaotic. Most of you know the chaos with the automobile situation I was in. I had a huge project at work that occupied a great deal of my cognitive thought. Months and months of staying up late to do KCWeather left me physically and mentally spent. All in all, the added stress and exhaustion equated
to some serious lack of motivation. I haven’t contacted artists for Looking Out The Window in some time, and I’ve been without new content now for over a month. Not having put out a podcast in that long has me going through some SERIOUS guilt. I love that show, but the lack of stories to use has really set me back. The website migrations took much longer than they should have. Work emergencies had me spent so much that we went out to eat 2 days in a row, which is extremely rare (I’m the cook in our house).
All that said, I finally emerged from the pile of things to do last night when I flipped the switch on the new KCWeather site. Looking Out The Window was a week or two ago. My big network project at work finished on Monday. Frantic cleaning of the house in anticipation of a family visit is done. Now that the monkeys are off my back, I need to find some time to simply disconnect, refocus, and re-energize.
For those of you that have been waiting on a new Looking Out The Window: I’m working a list of new artists to get involved in the show, and a list of people to bug once again that have made commitments already. I NEED to do that show, and it kills me not to do it. If I’ve let any of you down because of my lack of action in other new media projects, I apologize. I guess we all go through those times of chaos and stress, and when we reemerge from those times we can either excel, or remain stagnant. It all comes down to that ability to refocus and re-prioritize.
